The sky was heavy with rain that wanted to fall down, but so far they'd been lucky. Celebrating spookyday at the fair was good enough for the kids, as Neda couldn't afford snything else right now anyway. They still had simoleons, but she wanted to have a good ammount in her bankaccount. She'd sent in adoptionpapers, and once again found herself checking her mail to see if anything else had been sent her from the agency. She'd already been approved. And when you'd been approved, they sent someone to physically check out the potential home. She was pretty certain it wasn't standard, but as long as she got Samantha; the little girl that had played in the sand; she didn't care.
A scarecrow could look pretty terrifying, but Aurealius decided this just looked stupid. It seemed to serve it's function though, as the pumpkins were left alone and no birds were hacking on them.
The tiny wind made the scarecrow act really strange.
How was the wind making that happen?
That.... that was no way the wind could do that...
It was real! Aurelius was thrilled. He knew that spookyday was magic and this was the proof!! He loved spookyday and he was going to remember this for the rest of his life! The scarecrow at the fair was alive!
It's aliiiiivvvveeee!!!! Everyone around pretended they didn't hear him.
With wobbling steps he joined Kevin out on the skating rink. Grabbing eachothers hands, he did his best not to topple over. Why they even tried was beyone them, because both of them knew how it would end. Despite the agedifference, Aurelius was bigger than his cousin, and also didn't know how to skate. So that meant...
... that when he lost balance, he dragged a much lighter Kevin right down with him.
Ow, my butt! Aurelius thought it was unfair that he fell like this. He was never skating again!
It took a long while before Kevin answered, his glasses had gotten a hard hit and he was worried his forehead was bleeding. Turned out it wasn't: Why do I keep doing this? I know I'm gonna fall. He wasn't sure if he was telling the ice, or himself.
Getting bored with checking her mail, Neda decided to joing the kids and Tara in a pieeating contest. Just because she had horrible memories about vomiting from it in her childhood, didn't mean it was going to happen again.
I'm gonna win this. she procalaimed: I didn't eat this morning, so I'm starving! The kids weren't even competitors for this title in her opinion.
Keep dreaming. Tara on her side was certain she was going to win.
As the bell rang, they stuffed their faces down in pie; a true battle of families.
Aurelius started complaining almost immideately: Ew, this is so gross! And what if his pretty catsweater got ruined? He could barely breath with his face down there. Besides the pai tasted bad to, what was he supposed to with this?
Give up already! Neda did her best to psyche out her cousine, whom already was in trouble.
Never! Tara gasped for breath, desperately trying to pretend she didn't already need to vomit up the gross pie.
Kevin had barely noticed that he'd finished his pie, before the gong declared him the winner: I won! I won! And he'd won pie! Pie was good. But not this pie, it was thankfully another type.
Atleast there was no doubt that Aurelius was his mothers son.
NNNNNOOOOOOO!!!!! Titania screamed and fought against her on the floor. Ever since she'd learned how to talk she'd started saying; or screaming more like it; no to everything. Atleast that's what it seemed like to her.
Sweety, you can't eat the tree. It's made of plastic. And Neda was so tired of it. She had a constant headache and she was sure her hearing was permanently damaged because of it.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
Tearing up instead of staying cool, Neda wiped her eyes when she heard the doorbell ring. Why couldn't fucking Steve ever meet them? She never had any time off! Or, not any real time off! It was either work, and a short meeting with Tara then right home here to listen to Titania scream a bit more. She was still screaming to! The doorbell rang again, so someone was in a hurry for her to get there.
I'm coming, I'm coming! Neda shouted to the door again, even before going down the stairs. What was the point, no one heard her from the outside. Another agressive ring followed, accompanied by Titanias screaming. Fuck, she could even hear her from all the way down here. Was there no escaping?!
Ripping the door open, Neda realized she'd made an arse of herself, before even opening her mouth.
Miss Wong? The woman standing at the door said: I'm Laila Wist from the adoptionagency. I believe you've meet mister Cox already? After another break she said: That took quite a while. We sent you a mail that we'd show up this week to take a look at the place?
Right, right. I remember that. Ofcourse she remembered. She just hadn't expected them to show up today! The only day she hadn't had time to scrub the place down or anything. Because she hadn't been able to handle a toddler!
Please, come in! Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck. She'd wanted everything to be perfect! Then Titania started howling at the top of her longues again. Fuck!
Taking them up to the kitchen, the first thing that met Neda was dishes, dirty laundry and Kitty sleeping on the counter. Damnit! She'd told the boys to pick up after themselves in case this happened.
There's a cat on the bench there. Laila said, clearly not to pleased: Not very hygenic.
No. I just... I just wash it before I use it. We've tried teaching her not to sleep there, but it hasn't worked. Lying was the best attempt here. She'd never really cared that the cat slept there before, she just used another bench.Couldn't wake poor, old Kitty up just to make something to eat.
It's Kevins cat, so he kind of has responsibility for her so.... That's right Neda, blame the kids. That's what they are there for.
Kevin? Who's that? Fucking Brandon was giving her the third degree.
Sourfaced little shit, needed a good beating from his own mum. Arsehole: He's... he's my nephew that also lives with me. My brother's his dad and... uhm... he's travelling together with Kevins mum. So, yeah.
That's not in our papers- Laila seemed upset at the lack of information.
She was so screwed, they'd never let her adopt Sam: No. There wasn't any option for it, so I wrote it down on a note.
You're not supposed to use anything but the official papers. Laila was a real ruleslawyer it seemed.
They all pretended they didn't hear Titanias constant yelling: I know, I just....
Why didn't you just call and inform us then? Now wonder his surname was Cox, reminded of sucks; brandon sucks. Yeah, she'd believe that.
I didn't have time. I've worked a lot lately...
So you work alot? Damnit! Tricked again. Why couldn't she just think before she talked?
I was thinking that this might be turned into a bedroom for her. Neda took them into the storage room, it was the exact same size as the other kids rooms to so it wouldn't be unfair.
It's small. Brandon was still a pain
Yes, it's small. But the other kids have the same size on their rooms so....
The three other kids? She knew that would be a problem, that wanting to have four kids seemed greedy.
Yes...
Four children are a lot for a single parent. How often does your kids fathers meet them?
Like she didn't notice that little thing Laila did there: Well, as I said, Kevins dad's travelling.
What about your kids then. You had two. How often do they meet their dads?
They have the same dad.... But, they don't meet him that often... Like, not at all often. This was going straight to the abyss and further.
And you think that adding another child into this will go well? Was that a hypothetical question, or was she beeing sarcastic?
Yes.
NNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!! NNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Titania barely had any breath left, so if she was lucky, she'd fall asleep soon with mucus coming out of her nose, and tears drying on her cheek. She could fall asleep on the floor for all she cared, as long as she shut up.
You left a toddler unattended right next to the stairs? Laila thought about something that she hadn't.
Monsters locked! Aurelius made his voice deeper, pretended he was talking in one of those cool helmets and maskes, that he'd seen in movies mum wouldn't let him watch.
Targets found! Kevin joined in, whilst Aino pretended that she didn't notice the two other adults nt knowing what to do; Initializing nuclear bombs!
You missed the monstercave! AAARGH!!! My skin! MY SKIN IS BOILING!!!! GAAAAH!!!! Look Kevin! Look, then they like run out of the tank and scream because they dying! Like slowly! Like in that movie Kevin!
Yeah! he laughed with Aurelius; Then they die and their intestins explode!
Then they laughed again.
Neda found it insteresting how all three kids managed to be in their worst behavour all at the same time. Who was she trying to trick, they did this all the time.
IT EXPLODED! Kevin threw the tank up in the air: You're head exploded and there's brainmush everywhere!
Uhm... I think we've seen enough.... Brandon said with Laila agreeing.
This has been an interesting visit. Laila said; We'll show ourselves out. We'll be in touch.
Sure they would, sure they would. Fucking hell.
NNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Titania got her energy back to, just to make it a bit better.
Ofcourse Titania had calmed down almost the second they had left. This had gone straight down the toilet; she was such a looser. Neda really just wanted to feel sorry for herself a bit, whilst the toddler slept and the kids played upstairs. What had she thought anyway, that a fourth kid was a good idea? She didn't have time to the three she already had.
Sighing again, she felt a bit sorry for herself. She got what sourface had meant now, it wasn't about the parents that wanted to adopt; it was supposed to be what was best for the kids. And she and her halfcrazy family just wasn't. Fucking Steve, this was definitely his fault somehow.
Neda? Kevin had finished playing nuclear warlord- princess for now it seemed. Well, it was her fault for teaching them the game: Was that the adoptionsims?
It was them alright.
Oh. He waited for a longer while, before saying anything else: Did they let us have her then?
I don't know, they have to talk a bit first, and then they'll decide and let us know. So there's not a lot we can do now, other than waiting.
Did I screw up? Maybe playing nuclear warfare hadn't been the best desicion him and Aurelius had made for this.
Did I screw up? Maybe playing nuclear warfare hadn't been the best desicion him and Aurelius had made for this.
No, there's nothing you could've done Kevs. If they won't let us adopt Sam, then it's not even something that we do. It can be that she just needs a bit different home.
like somewhere calmer?
Like somewhere calmer. She had to admit that if they wouldn't let them adopt her, it was because she couldn't keep her kids under control. It definitely wasn't anything the boys were doing.
You know, this could've been fixed very easily, if you just got married. Kevin was full of good ideas.
You know, this could've been fixed very easily, if you just got married. Kevin was full of good ideas.
Oh honey, I don't want to get married.
But, isn't our wellbeeing more important to you? He sounded like a true politician this one. And his wellbeeing needed another kid that wasn't Nedas by genes, that way he wouldn't be so alone.
No it isn't. She laughed at him, to prove that she didn't really mean it: No, really. It's not easy adopting either way, and getting married doesn't change anything.
Not at all?
Nope, not at all.
How about a roommate then, would it help?
Give it a rest now, Kevs. Go play nuclear warhead in space or something.
Kevin darted out of the room so fast that he tripped in his dress; nuclear warhead in space was a healthy game for the little ones. Not.

She rarely thought about Irena any more, but her husband was a freak of a stalker. Steve had been a lying and lazy bastard, and she herself was far from good to be around. Just the thought of dating again made her skin crawl. She stood by her initial statement; never again. She had a great job, great friends and great kids. If they would just let her adopt Sam, her life would actually be pretty much as perfect as any sim could want. She just wished she hadn't screwed this meeting up so much. They'd never let her adopt Sam now, even if they'd gotten along great. She was a nice kid.
Despite snow falling just a few days earlier, none of it was left after the sun took it's turn warming the city. If this continued, they'd had another winterseason disappearing in sunshine and heat.
Continuesly thinking about the adoption agency, she still hadn't heard anything; neither positive or negative. It hadn't been more than a handful of days since they had been at her house, but how long could a rejection take?
She had to be out to selfharm or something, because she'd taken it upon herself to do the weekly: five on the streets intervju.
So these lights you're talking about... were they aliens by any chance? Neda was getting used to this by now. All the weirdos came running to her, so she might as well just move this along.
The woman stared at her like she was crazy for a bit: No. I'm an astronomer. I'm talking about light from the stars.
To deep in thoughts to actually pay attention, Neda answered: Oh, so you mean that you're in astrology? Like starsigns and stuff.
No. I'm an astronomer, as in astronomy. As in studying the stars. Like I have degrees in advanced mathematics and things like that. Studying outerspace stars.
Oh! Like a real scientist! Wow, to think they actually existed. She knew they had really good scientiest here in town, but she never met any. She'd just assumed they nerded around in their little nerdhavens, doing equations and stuff like that.
Yes! Like a real one!
Wow, that's impressive. I bet you have a lot of interseting things to share.
You bet I do! Have I told you about when my professor mistook ln for e?
Or it might be the worst and most boring intervju she'd ever know of. The woman continued: Now, obviously this was the first semester at uni. You know, just a quick refreshment class. Please make it stop...
Biwdie....
Birrrrrrrd.... It was so nice that Titania had stopped screaming for a few hours. That meant that she could finally take her out of the house a bit, and it was so good to see something else than the usual walls.
Brrrrrrdie.....
That's right! Bird.
But that's not any bird! It's Horus! Or Ra! Or maybe neither. Because he doesn't have a cobra on his head!
Cobba?
That's a snake, Titania. A snake. Ra has a sun with a snake around on his head, but Horus has a crown. This one just had a sun, so she kind of assumed it was Ra, but it didn't matter. She was a journalist, not an egyptologist.
Neda ignored the dog, that did it's best to make sure she saw it; and kept her attention on her daughter instead: Why?
I don't know. Mum doesn't know why a bird would have a snake on it's head. But I bet Horus uses a crown because he's a king. Or else why would he wear one? Her knowledge about ancient egyptian gods was pretty lacking, and even moreso trying to explain it to a toddler.
I wanna be brrrdking.
I wanna be brrrdking and peck cobbaeyes, then eat cobba.
Okay then, that was disturbing. She had to tell Aurelius to watch out for her when he was watching tv. Her son was a massive tvslave. Her phone usually rang almost nonstop, so she wasn't exactely unprepared for the vibrating pocket again.
Looking at the display the number and name came up; it was the adoptionagency. She was going to get rejected. How was she going to explain that to the kids? How was she supposed to explain that the city thought she wasn't fit to be a mother, when she already was one?
Knowing the chances for beeing rejected she put the phone up against her ear; feeling Titania squeeze herself closer: Hello? I see.
-----------------------------------------------
I keep writing Tatiana instead of Titania. And it's really just a filler chapter.
Unreliable note; it's actually quite fun to have a sim with a nice enough income, who doesn't struggle to pay the bills or buy smaller things. But at the same time, saves up to buy a new place to live, so she can't afford the big things. It's just a bit realistic. I hope to be able to buy a new place for them atleast, but aren't keeping my hopes up.
Thanks for reading
