1.12 No one ever listens

Riverwiev probably wasn't the biggest shithole in the world. Some people enjoyed being able to walk through dark alleyways without getting mugged. The people were friendly, and animals roamed the streets without the constant danger of getting smeared all over the roads.
Marek didn't understand how anyone could live there. No skyscrapers, nothing happening, everyone knew eachother. It was a shithole. The hotelroom was an overprised shithole too. No wonder, when they didn't have any competition. Even the trip had been a shitty one. It took forever. The plan had been to start as early as possible, but it was already to late to start looking into anything. Luckily the hotel sold overprised, shitty beer.

Two of three sister had ended up dead, to noones surprise. No matter how bad they were, Valerie and Adela had still been his sisters. And when the socialworker showed up with little Corinna, there wasn't anything else he could do. Wouldn't any brother do the same? Compared to what other sims did for their sisters, this really was nothing.
Marek had lied. He'd lied to his fiance Elsie, for his parents, his co workers and his boss, for Iva, for his friends. The first thought he was going to start an army drill this evening. Iva and his friends thought he was looking into his sisters death. Which wasn't really a lie, just not the entire truth.
The look on his parents face when Riverwiev was mentioned, gave him a bad feeling. There was something about that place that made them react in that strange way. But he didn't know what. Now he was here, to find out if what happened to his sisters, had something to do with his parents reaction.

Marek looked at his childhood friends. It wasn't that he actually assumed anything dangerous would accure. But it would be quicker finding information that way. And they both had their skills; flying for one, genious beeing the other.
Mostly he just didn't want to be alone at this time. Not that he told them, ofcourse. They were men, they didn't talk about their feelings and shit like that. Which is why he had cried alone in his bedroom, when he had learned of his sisters death. Like a real man.
So for now they shared intelligent conversation, three tipsy men in a shithole of a town.
Marek slured a bit when he talked: We need a plan to get further. The police was sparce with their information, so I think that's where we should start.
Gards strangely sobersounding voice broke throught the fluttering of Lukas wings: Is it an ongoing investigation?
Why? Marek looked at the guy.

Gard continued: Then the cops usually aren't very generous with the information they have.
Marek voiced his exact thoughts: Shit, I didn't think about that.
You could try using your situation as a grieving relative. Put a little pressure on them. It really depends on how professional the police are in this place. As usual, the vampire had some good ideas.
How professional can they possibly be in this shithole? There, Marek had said it. None of the others seemed to disagree. They all loved the big city.

Hey, Gloomyfangs..... Lukas interrupted them. Why the hell didn't he sound sligthly drunk either? Both of them had more beers than he had.
What? Gard usually sounded a bit irritated when talking to the fairy. But to his defense, they could be really irritating. Mainly because they entertained themselves by pranking others.
It might be an easier way. Policewomen exsist for a reason right? Only Lukas would give that as the first idea.

To give pervs like you the opportunity to stuff money down their panties? We're talking about real professional policeofficers. Not strippers blondie. Having fangs obviously meant you had to snap at people.
Lukas didn't even seem sligthly offended: No, to give guys like me the an easy time getting information.
The vampire grinned at him: Good thinking Lukas. Don't call me when they throw you in jail. No, wait. Please call me, so I can laugh at you.

Marek interrupted them: That's a good idea Lukas.
See?! Lukas sounded like a kid that had been proven right.
Obviously Gard was a bit more tipsy than he sounded: You brought us here to prostitute us? Freak...

Busted! I'm gonna sell you both at the meat market. I doubt any of you will make me rich but atleast I'll get rid of you!
Marek hid a sigh. Maybe he should have taken some army buddies with him instead. Atleast they didn't argue all the time. On the other hand, they only pussytalked and got piss drunk everytime they left the base. Nah, these two were better. They actually went well along, but for some reason always bickered.
He left them alone to use the bathroom, and phone Elsie. He'd just tell her the drill got postponed a few hours. She probably wouldn't notice the slur.

There's no need to be jealouse there, walking carcass. Lukas didn't even wait until Marek had left before he continued the namecalling. I can't blame you though. Must be tough beeing cold blooded, when there's so many hot women out there not even wanting to touch your dead body. Me on the other hand! The ladies love me!

Gard served him a very unpleasing smile, making them both remember a vampires favourite snack: Yeah, I heard your wife figured that out to! Way to get some loving there blondie. How long did it take before she kicked your sorry arse out?

The fairy quickly got over the thought at someone viewing him as food. No way Gard would ever chew on his hairy body: Pft, there's enough of me to go around anyways. She had problems you know. Big problems.
Gard didn't look any nicer as he said: Yeah, she had one big problem atleast. But then she kicked you out didn't she? Looks like she solved her big problem. He leaned forward a bit: I'm referring to you as the problem, just in case you didn't get it. Gard smiled as he leaned back again.

It was time for Lukas to step up: Shut up gloomyfangs! It's none of your business what goes on between me and my wife anyway! Or do you need my advice on how to break up with your imaginary girlfriend maybe?
Apperantly vampires can keep their voices cold and threatening, and sound like they want to laugh at the same time: No thank you Lukas. I don't cheat and make sure my girlfriends find out, so they'll break up with me instead. I'm a big boy. I break up with them all by myself.
Lukas usually kept his voice soft around women, but atleast he liked them. Most of them wouldn't have recognised the anger in his voice now. He spit out every word: What the fuck is that supposed to mean?!

Strangely enough the vampire seemed amuzed. Few thing were as entertaining as irritating fairies. Mainly because they got angry so quickly. They also calmed down easily, or forgot why they were angry to begin with.
It means, Gard said, You tried to fuck your best friends sister infront of your wife, because your to much of a coward to walk away from a relationship on your own. You used her to do your dirtywork. He smiled even bigger, when he continued: If you think it's bad handling me, wait until she figures it out....

Who's sister? Mareks voice was low and emotionless. With all the arguing none of them had noticed him entering the room again.
Gard looked at Lukas: Shit, Lukas. I didn't mean...
My sister? Marek went closer to the fairy. What sister? He spat the words out, a little louder each time. Lukas stared at the skinny guy, none of his thoughts managed to slip out of his mouth.
Marek looked at the blond man infront of him. Everyone knew sisters were off limits. It slowly fell into his tipsy mind.
Iva? You and Iva? You and my twin sister? My baby sister?
Lukas tried to calm him down: Marek, calm down. I didn't do anything.....

Mareks arms trembled with rage, as he desperately tried to keep it under control. Even his knees were shaking, aching to run over to the damn blonde and beat him until he stopped moving.
YOU FUCKING STAY AWAY FROM MY SISTER!!!!
Lukas talked in a calm voice. Despite what Gard liked to assume, he wasn't a complete moron. Like any normal brother, Marek was protective of his sister. But he'd just lost the two oldest one. And not to mention he just learned that his last living sister jumped married men.
I swear Marek, nothing happened. We just kissed....
DON'T  YOU FUCKING TELL ME THAT!!! Marek didn't have his sisters temper, but his small frame hid a strength fitting a rabid bull.
Somewhere between the dunking of blood in his ear, he heard Gards seemingly calm voice: No one wants their friends touching their sisters. But their both adults...
SHUT UP!!!! Marek roared it as loudly as possible.
A loud knock on the door would under normal circumstances have broken things up. But not this time.
You know, that's probably the receptionist, wondering whats going on. Lukas and Gard might not be the closest of friends, but that didn't mean he deserved a beating. I'll go open it, so no killing blondie just yet, okay? Gard went quickly, to prevent anyone from calling the police.
Whoever was at the door, Marek couldn't have cared less: You filthy...
Maybe Gards very out of character giggling in the background should have held a clue. He finally turned around as he heard the vampires amused voice in the background.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Marek! Look what I found. Gards giggling voice made Iva wonder how much the guys actually had to drink.
She'd stood outside their door for a while, hearing the loud voices and found it best to interrupt before it ended in a brawl. Not that she had a clue what it was about, but her brothers voice was easily recognizable. And for now, it would be easier if they all were unscathed. Sulking men, licking their own wounded pride, was a pain in the arse.
Hi!! Iva put on her best smile, hoping no one would noticed how forced it was. She was in so much trouble right now.
Lukas used the opportunity to make a run for it, under the excuse of getting more "shitty beer".

What the hell are you doing here?! Her brother seemed to calm down a bit, but was obviously still angry. It was always so fun hearing him talking when he'd been drinking. Unlike normal sims, he slurred after half a bottle.

See, Gard said. I told you he'd be happy to see you!
So you did! she smiled. Best rub the drunk vampire the right way.
Still smiling he continued: I'm going to keep blondie company. We'll be right outside if you need something. Then he left them.

He didn't wait to hear the door slam, before starting: Who's taking care of the baby, and mum, and dad? You can't just walk away from all responsibility!
Oh, don't you get all army on me! Iva bit him off as politely as possible, referring to the way he stood.
I phoned Elsie, she's there helping them. And before you ask; I just told everyone that I needed to leave town to do some research. They were all fine with it!
You lied then? He had calmed down a little bit.

I didn't lie, she said. I just witheld parts of the truth.
She knew it was a gamble, using his own words against him. But it was worth it.

You swore you wouldn't follow me. Obviously he wasn't going to give up that easily. You lied to me. She shoock her hear at that.

I swore I wouldn't follow you, and I didn't. I came yesterday. Actually, you followed me. She wasn't done twisting words just yet. And who are you calling a liar anyway? You promised to get some armybuddies with you. Not those two.
She interrupted Mareks attempt to say something. In addition, I don't believe that you want to investigate the case with our sisters either!! Iva was surprised at herself for not getting the slightest angry. You're here for the same reason I am. Mum and dad are hiding something about this place. And we both want to know what it is.

Marek had always been a strong figure in her life, as twins they had a close bond. She still couldn't believe he'd lied to her like that. The reaction she got was completely unexpected. But there has to be a first time for everything.
Massaging his forehead with his fingertips, her brother finally said something, mostly to himself: I give up! No one ever listens!
He kept rubbing his temple as to ease the feel of a headache. That wasn't entirely true, most of the time people did listen to him. It was mainly his sisters he talked about, and his fiance.Women were just so difficult!

I try, and I try. But no. You just have to do everything your own way all the time! He kept up the massaging. Beeing the only boy with three strong willed sisters was not an easy task. The army was a walk in the park compared to that. Why me?! he slurred.

She didn't feel to sorry for him. It was mainly the alcohol talking, and he was probably tired from a long trip. A good nights sleep would fix that mood. He'd probably cry alone in the bedroom too, he did that when he was sad. Not that he thought she knew that. Brothers were stupid that way.
So she walked past him, to take a seat instead, and said: You know how mum and dad are from Saint Claire righ?
     He nodded into his hand.
Well, they aren't, neither were our sisters. Dad's from Bridgeport, nothing special to find out about him. But....

She sat down and waited for her brother. He didn't look to happy, but atleast he listened.
But mum's from Riverwiev, so were our sisters.
That got his attention, even if he still looked tired.
Iva still wasn't done: Mums mother, Isobel, was a local, high profiled artist, but didn't get recognized until she was a senior. In addition, she was a raving lunatic, to put it mildly.

Okay, Marek said. If she's so famous why haven't we heard about her?
Iva smiled at him. Several reasons: first of all, it's art so who cares? In addition, we live in Jericho, where modern art and artist that's still are alive is the biggest thing. She was a local high profiled artist, and quite a kitsch one at that. Nothing the art community accepts.
This time Marek grinned at her: Kitsch? I don't even know what the hell that is.
Iva continued: I found mums birth certificat buried way down under a bunch of crap, Isobel's the mum, and the dad's unknown.
It was probably some weirdo that took advantage of the crazy lady, but she didn't say that to her brother. He was to sensitive to hear things like that.

But, and she had Mareks full attention this time, other than the birth certificat, there's no information about her between adult, and senior. I checked hospitals, taxes, asylums, family, doctors, dentists and sort. Nothing. No one took care of the crazy lady.
She went on: But she must have been in Riverwiev. I found speculations about a lot of artwork sold in Riverwiev, actually was Isobels work. The guy who took credit was called Florencio.
Marek looked at her: Iva! Thats amazing! How did you find all that? In so short a time.
She grinned at him. After all she did this all the time when researching for her books. In addition she'd looked into it since he told he was going to this shithole.
But she still wasn't done. It was bloody difficult to find out, but Isobel had a brother named Florian. Dare we assume he was the same as "Florencio" ?I tried find a picture of him, but I couldn't. I found this paparazzo of Isobel though.

Marek looked at it a long time: She looks just like mum, doesn't she? And crazy- No doubt about that.
Iva nodded and went on: I also found this picture, when trying to find information about this Florian guy.
Look at that. The little girl is mum, the womans name is Natalia. Every other source I've found says she is mums mother.
And look at that boy. That could have been you! But his name's Mok, appearantly Florians son. The last girl, is just someone living with them.
She just went on: Finding mums birth certificat was bloody hard, Marek. I doubt I would have found it at all, if I hadn't known Isobels name.

It was Mareks turn to surprise Iva. The teens are in love, their holding hands behind their back. It sure doesn't look like a happy family. But this Natalia is probably a relative, they look a bit like eacother.
He was still looking at the picture: Who's the boys mum?
Iva had to tell him that there were no official records. Even if he supposedly was Florians son, he wasn't born at all. What she didn't mention was she assumed their mum and the boy were brother and sister. Marek didn't need to know that.

     They looked at eachother.
So where was Isobel at this time?
Marek seemed intrigued. Art theft was a crime, and Adela and Valerie were criminals. Maybe they've stumbled upon the story, and ended paying the price? He shared his thoughts, and she nodded at them. Especially when he suggested himself looking into the last theory. Especially since it involved him running around the policestation, not with criminals.
Iva was certain it was a complete coincidence.
It was better to let him look into their sisters demise, than what she'd found out of the families history. After all, she had tried talking to the cops here, but they were one tight lipped bunch. If she couldn't get information about the case out of them, neither would Marek.
And he would live happily ever after thinking their sisters actually tried doing some good for the first time in their lives. Now she just needed to keep him occupied with something that seemed legit, until the time came to go home. Hopefully she hadn't told him to much.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You all thought it would be about the boys now, didn't you?? For the record, I love Riverwiev, it's not a shithole:)
That was a lot of information and talking. Hopefully you could follow without any problems, and just overlook all the flaws and thin storyline there.
Don't mind Lukas and Gard, their not enemies or anything. It was just a way to show why Lukas acted the way he did. And having a bit of fun with the classic vampire- fey differences. It was so easy giving them funny faces when making poses, I got a bit to exited about it. Swear it won't happen again.
When you take a household from one city, and add it to another, they loose all familyrelations! So Marek keeps rolling wants to kiss Iva, and flirts with her all the time. She's not sad about it either :) Ah well, atleast she met a nice guy right :D
Thanks for reading!

1.11 No big surprise

Dawn hadn't even broken by the time Iva got to her parents house. Marek had been quick and urgent on the phone.
Criminals had a tendency to end up either dead or in jail. The turn had come to her sisters this time. Both Adela and Valerie had kicked the curve.
It wasn't a big surprise to Iva. The "icecreamtruck" hadn't been seen in quite a few days. What other reason would the police have for stopping their surveillance?
That didn't mean she wasn't able to be surprised by Elsie appearing at the frontdoor.

Hi Iva. I'm so sorry for your loss. Elsie didn't seem to care to much either, but she didn't really know the terrible twosome, other than by reputation. Sorry to interrupt you so early in the morning. But you know your family.....
"Her family", that meant either mum or Marek. Things had to be done immideately. Iva thanked the woman for her condolences.

How are they taking it? Iva kept her voice down, to make sure noone heard them.
Pretty well actually. Elsie looked a bit confused, as she leaned in, nearly whispering: Your dad.... He said something strange a few days ago. Something about leaves withering and stuff. And then your mum started crying. She leaned away from Iva again. Can he like... predict the future or something?
Iva gave Elsie a flat look. Nah, he just has pretty good instincts.
Maybe she should have told Elsie, that she was pretty sure her dad could do just that. But then again, she didn't actually know. Besides, knowing someone died before anyone tells you, doesn't count as predicting did it?
Elsie went into the living room, announcing her arrival whilst Iva brushed snow off herself in the hallway. No reason leaving a snowy trail through the house.

Elsie hadn't lied. They looked pretty content. Except Marek, who looked like he wanted to chew rock.

They spent the morning like anyone would in a case like this. Talking about feelings, expressing anger and disbelief. Sharing fond memories, strangely enough most of them was from the sisters toddler stage.

Iva gave Elsie and her brother a long look, hoping one of them would save her from her parents. She wasn't good at talking about feelings. She felt sorry for her sisters, and bore a sense of loss, maybe a bit guilt and a lot of sorrow for her parents. Loosing half of their children must be a horrible experience. But all in all, the big sorrow wasn't there. Maybe she really was an ice- cold bitch?

Instead she excused herself, and interrupted the two of them. Elsie immideately left them, and sat with his parents. That was strange. And why didn't they seem all broken up, Elsie was even smiling a bit? What was it they weren't telling her?

It turned out that Elsie was right. They had already known of the sisters demise, several days before the police found their relatives. No one wanted to tell her, since they really didn't know for sure. But a few hours ago the police had showed up at the door to share the bad news. But there was also another man with them. Giving them one hell of a surprise.

Just follow me in here a bit. Marek lead her to the bedroom, while the three others threw long looks after them.

     That's a crib... Iva said.
     Yeah.
Congrats? She smiled at her brother.
Nope. Marek didn't keep his voice down, as the burrito was wide awake. And surpisingly quiet.

     Meet Corinna, he said.
     Who's baby is it? Elsies?
He shoock his head. Nope, she's Adelas.
To think something so small could be such a big surprise. Iva stared at the baby for a long time, before finally talking. Pointing out the most obvious thing.
Are you fucking kidding me? Someone climbed Adela?
This time, he nodded. Appearently so.

It looked like her dad had been right about the grandchild, at her graduation.
Iva didn't ask permission to hold the baby. She was her aunt after all. And it wasn't like the babys mother could complain. She looked at the little thing lying in her arms. It didn't look strange in any way.
Is she a witch? Iva kept studying the baby, trying to find horns or a tail of some sort.
Marek raised his shoulders. Dad said he didn't know. But I'm not sure I believe him.

Your mum could cast love spells, she talked to Corinna in that funny voice she'd heard other adults use. The one she promised she'd never use herself.
A love spell had to be the only one anyone would dear sleep with Adela right? The woman was terrifying. As Corinna grabbed a fistful of Ivas hair, she fell in love.

How could something so terrible as Adela produce somthing so cute and helpless?
She kept whispering to the baby, whilst talking in the same funny voice. When you get older, I'm going to tell you the same stories as your grandpa told me. About evil knights and even scarier dragons.

She didn't even notice her brother having a seat. All the while looking at Corinna, he eventually said something: They died in Riverview, not here. That's why it took so long for the cops to find us.

Oh no! The tummy is in danger! Iva readied herself to chew on the babies stomach. In the background Marek kept up the talking.
It was quite horrible to. I made sure mum and dad didn't hear it, but Adela drowned, and Valerie got roasted.

Is that your tummy? No!! It's your mouth! Corinna pinched her cheek, with fat little hands, when Iva kissed the babys droling lips.
In the background her brother went on: It's a bit strange, don't you think? Their both witches, and died those ways? You know, like witches.

There's the tummy!! Mmmm. Corinnatummy, that's auntie Ivas favourite snack! She pretended to chew on the babies stomach.
The police said it was a result of a conflict with the local criminal gang. Some attempt at a takeover, or a cooperation gone wrong. They weren't sure yet. Her brother had gotten up from the couch, and stood behind her again.

Maybe you can come and stay with auntie Iva, instead of boring uncle Marek!!! Would you like that Corinna! I would love to have you living with me! And Fattys gonna love you to!
Iva, she's not going anywhere. Mum and dad are the automatic guardians by law, atleast until they find out who her dad is. His voice sounded tired. I'm going to go to Riverview and look around a bit for myself. Iva, are you listening to me?

I'm going to teach you how to tell scary stories to the other kids, so they will be afraid of you...
Iva! Marek tried getting her attention once again. I have to do it. I don't want little Corinna here not knowing anything about her mother. And if it's bad, we might have to tone it down. This has the potential of becoming a massive scandal if the press gets a hold of it. He obviously found her behaviour slightly amuzing.

You should put her back into her crib. We'll come visit, I promise. Her brother made one last attempt at getting Ivas attention.
But she's so soft...... Iva gave off a sad sound and finally put Corinna down. The baby seemed happy about beeing left alone.

So, Rieverwiev eh? Iva had heard every word of it. She never understood why other sims found it strange, that she could be occupied doing something else, and still hear every word they said. After all, she was an author. Observing was one of the things she did the most for that profession. Ofcourse it didn't mean she always paid attention, but then it was by choice.
She continued: I'm going with you. If there's criminal syndicates, or other gangs involved it might get dangerous. You really shouldn't go alone. And what do you think Elsie's going to say when you tell her?

You're not going. His voice wasn't even strick. This was nothing to discuss in his opinion, so no angry voice needed. I need you to stay here and watch Corinna, and help mum and dad. They are getting really old, you know that. I can't ask Elsie to take all that responsibility.
You're going to lie, aren't you? Her stupid brother thought he could lie to his twin?

I'm not going to lie. I'll just withold parts of the truth.
Yes, lie. That's what I said. He could call it whatever he wanted, a lie was still a lie. This time a potentially dangerous one.
It's not exactely a lie. Please, Iva. I really need you to do this for me. I need to know that everyone is in good hands, and you will keep everyone safe. And if the press comes sniffing, you'll definitely scare them off.

      Okay. Iva interrupted him.
Really?! Did he have to sound so surprised? That was easier than I expected.
I do have some terms though.
He nodded at her, that was probably fair.
You're not going alone. Take some of those army buddies with you. Not stupid Per, Lukas or Gard or something, I mean it. Take some tough guys with you. Marek kept nodding as she continued speaking: Don't do anything that seems dangerous. If it's really a criminal syndicate, they know you're looking in to it.

Marek either gave up, or realised she was right: Sounds fair. I don't really want to go to shitty Riverview alone either way.
I'm not joking Marek, Iva said. If someone killed Valerie and Adela in those ways, they'll have no problem taking you out. And they will do it, if they believe you're a threat.
And you promise you won't follow me? Marek made a last attempt to make sure she was listening to him.
I swear, on Corinnas cute diaperbum, that I will, under no circumstances, go after you to Riverwiev. Now, when are you leaving?
I'll leave in three days. Rather early, so I can start looking into it as soon as I get there.
Iva nodded while looking at him. Okay. I'm finishing up a book at the moment, so I won't be able to get here until late in the evening. You okay with that?
There was no problems with that ofcourse.

As soon as they came to the living room, everyone jumped out of their seats. Iva hugged her dad and gratulated him on the grandchild. She knew he had been waiting for Corinna, for a long time.

Her mum didn't seem to unhappy about it either. As she pulled out her wallet and showed tons of babypictures of the four of them, and her new grandchild. They've only had her for a few hours, so how the old lady had gotten all those pictures was a question hard to answer. Iva put on her best "I want to get out of here face" but her mother was merciless.
Look here honey! Here's you and Marek in the bathtub together! Now, how old were you again? Oh, that's right.... You were two and a half. I remember the two of you.....

The hours spent, wasn't all about Corinna and wasted chatting. The funeral had to be taken care of also. It turned out that was mainly why Elsie was there, appereantly she was good with those sort of things. Now they just needed the bodies to be released, before the small funeral would be held.
Leaving her massive childhood home, Iva caught a glimpse of one of the few pictures that had the six of them together. They looked so normal.
Her brother was right. It was strange that two witches was killed that way. Either someone wanted to make an example of them, or it was personal. Hopefully it wouldn't end in a full out gang war. But if it did, Iva crossed her fingers that it would stay in Riverwiev.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guess it was no surprise for anyone, that they got killed off. The baby isn't going to live with Iva, if anyone wondered. It was mainly to show that her biological clock is ticking. SP made her move in with her dad fortunately. And no worries, there will be no gang wars in Jericho. That would be to much work to write about. Though it would be neat.
Thanks for reading :)
